About me
Adam Cabrera is a GIS professional with 30 years of experience spanning the full arc of the industry, from command-line tools to modern web frameworks. He serves as Geo Engineering Manager at the King County GIS Center, where he leads a team building public-facing geospatial applications.
Through MapSimple, his open-source GIS project, Adam builds custom GIS tools and widgets in his own time and releases them to the community for free. The suite currently includes QuerySimple, HelperSimple, and FeedSimple, each designed to address real gaps in the platform's out-of-the-box offerings. He describes his role there simply as Map and AI Whisperer.
In late 2025, Adam began using AI as a primary development tool and documented what he found, both the speed gains and the failure modes. That work led him to define Vector Coding, a disciplined approach to AI-assisted development in which the human provides clear architectural direction rather than deferring to the model's output.
He writes about AI, architecture, and GIS craft at mapsimple.org.
